History

 

GMS was founded in 1984 under the name of GMS Telephone Services, INC. and began when deregulation of the telecommunications industry in 1983 created a new business opportunity for (4) former Bell South / ATT employees. In 2012, GMS formally changed its business name to GMS Business Communications, INC to reflect the ever changing telecommunications industry which had evolved from basic phone systems to the more complicated network cabling structure and fiber optic cabling now required for high speed networks and communication.

GMS can meet all of your structured cabling needs. We have been installing cable for voice, data, fiber optic and video for the past three decades. We are a Panduit Partner and our certified technicians can provide your business with complete confidence that your cabling infrastructure will be installed properly and test to industry standards.

In addition to network cabling GMS also offers other telecommunications services including, video, for surveillance systems, phones system installation and maintenance, paging and consulting services. GMS is an authorized NEC and Avaya reseller.

GMS has worked in a wide range of industries including Government, Healthcare, Transportation, Manufacturing, Agriculture and Retail among others. GMS has plenty of experience with critical systems including recorders and traffic control systems utilized by the railroad and transportation industry. Additionally, GMS has provided installation and support for many high production data centers.  

 

Project Size

 

GMS has completed several projects of various sizes over the last 30 years. Whether it’s new construction or the retrofit of existing site, we can meet your low-voltage needs. The ideal project size for GMS is up to $1 Million.

GMS is safety conscience and ensures employees and subcontractors adhere to its safety training. GMS routinely checks employees for safety compliance and holds mandatory safety meetings.

 

Management Team

 

Robert Peacock is the last remaining member of the original founders of the company. Robert has 40 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He began his career in the telecom industry with the Marine Corp where he served as a communications specialist. Later, he would leave active duty and join the Air Force as a reservist where he continued work in communications. Upon leaving the Marine Corp, Robert secured a job with Southern Bell, in conjunction with his reservist work, where he advanced in several jobs including; installer, PBX installer and repair, complex systems and finally technical support for complex systems. Robert has witnessed the evolving changes in the telecommunications industry and has stayed abreast of the latest trends and technology. His knowledge of historical communication applications and fundamentals have made his expertise more valuable as today’s emerging technologies are predicated on past foundations which is often not taught to today’s technicians.

Greg Peacock brings a wealth of financial and operations management into GMS. Greg holds dual MBA from Georgia State University in Finance and Accounting and also possess the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designations. Additionally, Greg is also studying for the CPA exam, where he has already completed two of four sections. He is a former CFO for the Georgia Department of Revenue, where he managed an operating budget of $176 Million and revenue collections of $24.8 Billion. Greg opted to leave state government and join his father to help manage upcoming projects and expand GMS’ reach into government and other sectors using the network he has established over the last 15 years.
